From what I understand all frum Jews around the world make some sort of a hot stew for Shabbos lunch. Sephardim call it Hamim, Eastern European Jews call it Cholent.

What are the Western European ingredients for Bonen Chalet [Cholent]?

There were many different styles used, some made a hot sweet pudding, and some made a meat stew.
Tendlau writes the following:
White beans were put in the oven, as soup, in a properly greased pot.

When I was in Washington Heights (over 20 years ago) they ate Gruen Kern Zupe, which was green wheat kernels grown only in Germany. They imported it from there. It was served in a thin soup. I served it at a Kiddush we made in honour of the birth of our daughter. Unfortunately, as the assembled will all remember, there was a heat wave that Shabbos.

During the summer, it was traditional to have fruit soup served cold.
