Making noise when name of Homon harasha is leined

What is the minhog re children or others making noise when name of המן is leined?

I asked R. Yisroel Strauss of K'hal Adas Yeshurun Washington Heights about the minhogim there related to this, after first asking him about what I had read on a website where someone wrote that they vaguely remember many years ago there being a stoplight near the bima there which turned red when the groggers had to stop. His response, posted here with his permission, follows -

"Sorry, it is not true. In fact groggers (sirens, whistles,etc) are fairly new, 30-35 years. In fact most of the noise is still generated with stamping feet and banging of the shtender covers. The first mention gets about 4 seconds and the rest about 1-2 seconds. Zeresh gets equal treatment. Do other places bang for Zeresh? The other German shuls that I’ve been in did not bang for Zeresh."
