Is the Minhag to rustle the lulav while putting it out and pulling it back? Or should one make sure the rings are tight so it should not rustle. (I've been told that rustling can actually damage the lulav). Is the Minhag to turn toward the direction that one is shaking or should one remain facing forward? When shaking down, is the Minhag to turn the lulav upside-down? How about the other directions? (e.g. while shaking forward, should one point the lulav forward, or is just putting it toward that direction sufficient)?

The Minhag is to rustle (lightly) the Lulav. The rings are not meant to stop the rustling, but are there for "נוי סוכה".Daniel wrote: Is the Minhag to rustle the lulav while putting it out and pulling it back? There were different Minhogim, but the most common is that one only puts the Lulav to the direction, (and when shaking down one lowers the Lulav).Daniel wrote: Is the Minhag to turn toward the direction that one is shaking or should one remain facing forward? Do we move the lulav three times forward and then back to the body (for every direction) like the Rama says, or do we move only one time for each direction, but with rustling three times like the Shulchan Aruch says?
