Where does one recite Kerias Shema Al HaMitoh? How long before one goes to sleep should one say it? Can one say it in bed and in what position? Does one say HaMapil before or afterward? Does one say the entire Shema or only the first paragraph?

Krias Shma al Hamitoh is supposed to be said before one goes to sleep, and Hamapil is definitely supposed to be said just before the sleep.
The Minhag usually was to say Hamapil before Krias Shma (and Krias Shma is not considered Hefsek), but one could do it in the opposite order too.

As we all know, Kerias Shema Al HaMitoh is rather lengthy and one might not be able to memorize all the various sections. Must one recite all the tefillos while in bed or may one recite everything but HaMapil and Kerias Shema beforehand?
