Tallis With A Gold or Metal Atoroh

Only very few people did it in the very recent past, and the minhag in general didn't come from Ashkenaz but from outside of Ashkenaz.

The minhag for an Ovel RL has been to wear a black Atoroh. Between the two world wars, there were some Rabbonim from Hungary and Lithuania who were not familiar with this minhag, and when they came to Germany and saw it, they thought it to be minhag Amei Ho'oretz and Chukous Hagoi, so they recommended the tzibbur to stop following this minhag, therefore at that time the minhag weakened, but as mentioned above - this was Minhag Ashkenaz. And this minhag was still kept until the Holocaust and also afterwards by few people.
