Kiddusch Becher

What type of becher was common in Ashkenaz? My grandparents' mesader kiddushin, Maureinu HoRov Shimon Schwab זצ”ל gave them a stemmed kaus at their chasunah, but my grandfather ז”ל always used an unstemmed one (like the one pictured below).
