Yartzheit minhagim

I know that in MA one does not receive an aliyah the Shabbos prior to a yarzheit. Is there any basis in MA to sponsor a kiddush or seudah shlishis on the Shabos prior to a yartzheit.
Is there any precedent for having a kiddush either in shul or at home if the yarzeit falls on Shabbos?

In KAJ, Washington Heights the Yahrzeit receives an Aliyo of the shabbos prior to the yahrzeit, provided that the day of his yahrzeit does not fall on a day with Kri'as HaTorah
